Today’s The Day

“The problem is, you think you have time” ~ Buddha

Today is the day! It’s the only one that matters and it is absolutely the only one that is real.  And you, like most everyone on the planet, are living as though you have all the time in the world. And truth be told, we all know we really don’t.  And life is precious, and before you know it, time does indeed run out. Seize the moment, live for today, live like it’s the last day you have!

The Past Has Passed:

Whatever has already happened has already happened! Yet, for so many of my clients, they are stuck living in the past. Past relationships, past shortcomings, past events, past failures and past successes. And yes, while the past has had some influence on where you are now, it’s not the NOW, and should not occupy your NOW. Time and time again I encounter clients that are hanging on to what used to be, rather than living in what truly IS. When you live in the past, you are not present to what is happening now, and you lose the opportunity to create and live newly. You rob yourself of that which is currently present in your life, along with all of the love, joy and happiness that comes from living in the present. And for many, without them even knowing it, it’s a way that they can avoid whatever is currently present in their lives.

The Future Doesn’t Matter:

So many of you are planning and thinking and running yourself to death about the future.  And yes, it is natural to plan and be thoughtful of one’s future, but not to the detriment of one’s NOW.  When you are so occupied with what may happen in the future; whether it’s in the area of relationships, career, money, etc; you run the risk of not living in the NOW and taking time for what’s happening currently. When you are absorbed and focused on tomorrow, you rob yourself of today, the gift that it is and the uniqueness of the moment. There is not a single day that lies ahead that will be the same as the day you are currently experiencing. When you can learn to live here in the now, seizing the opportunity of THIS day, you can learn to let go of needing to control the outcome of tomorrow and all of the days ahead. You see, tomorrow will bring it’s own set of unique qualities and experiences that will only be real in the moment. By trying to live in the future, given your current state of mind and the way you see life today; you are setting yourself up for a no-win situation because you can only see life the way it is for you today, in your current view of life.

Carpe Diem:

So seize the day! Live today to the fullest! Do extraordinary things! Sing! Dance as if no one were watching. Say hello to a stranger. Share the gift of happiness, love, joy and compassion that you are. Give away $20 to someone just because. Take an art class, ride your bike on the beach, call an old friend, sit in silence and give thanks and gratitude for all that you are and all that is. Breathe, smile, laugh, love. When you can be in the place of appreciation for all that you are and all that is NOW, in this day, you are then able to be present to the gift of today. It’s a gift indeed, that is why it’s call the present! Live and be here now. Wholly.
